The Rain Train Traveling Sprinkler is a watering tool made with a rustproof cast iron construction. It has the capability to water up to 13,500 square feet, but for more effective performance, it is recommended to cover a smaller area of 11,900 square feet. The sprinkler arms can be adjusted to create various spray patterns and arcs, dispersing water anywhere from 15 to 56 feet.

Operating similar to an electric model train, the sprinkler moves along a hose laid out in a predetermined route. The front wheel of the sprinkler runs on the hose while the two rear wheels provide traction. To set up, the homeowner simply lays out the hose, making sure to avoid sharp corners that could cause kinks or derailment. The hose is connected to the back of the sprinkler.

For optimal results, a 5/8-inch hose is recommended by LR Nelson, but a 1/2-inch hose up to 200 feet in length can also be used. To stop sprinkling, a shut-off ramp is placed on the hose to lift the sprinkler off its "rails" and halt operation. The shut-off ramp should be positioned at least five feet away from the spigot.

The Rain Train Traveling Sprinkler offers two motor speeds - high and low. At high power, the sprinkler travels about 37 feet per hour with a 1/4-inch water application rate. On low power, it moves at a rate of 21 feet per hour with a 1/2-inch water application.
